Blog. The Zetter Hotels & Co Climb Big for Hospitality Action

November 11, 2022 | Author: Maria Boney

Last month a group of eight courageous employees from The Zetter Hotels & Co group completed the iconic Three Peaks Challenge on our behalf and we couldn’t be more grateful. This gruelling but rewarding challenge takes in the dizzy heights of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon and saw our magnificent eight pushed to the limit as they trekked around 26 miles and ascended to a total height of almost 3,000m. We caught up with the team post-event to hear all about their adventure and why they chose to fundraise for HA.

Q1: Who took part in the challenge?

Liutauras Vaitkevicius – Managing Director

Kayla Ebbels – Central Accounts Assistant

Myriam Oudy – Events Executive

Micaela González – Central Reservations Executive

Eljesa Saciri – General Manager of The Zetter Townhouse, Marylebone

Diogo Meneses – Duty Manager

Arturas Marazas – Duty Manager

Dave Docherty – Head of Maintenance

Q2: We love your enthusiasm and really appreciate your heroic actions. How did you find tackling the mighty Three Peaks?

Liutauras Vaitkevicius says:

From the moment we decided to take this challenge, we consciously decided to create ways to help and motivate each other. Be it sharing workouts on WhatsApp group, discussing timings of the trip, nutrition or equipment needed on google docs - all of those things were critical for the success of the challenge. So, when we got into our van and set off for the long drive to Scotland, everything felt incredibly natural. We all know each other really well and had trust in one another’s motivations and commitment to this cause. In many ways, the climb itself was the easiest part - all we had to do was to execute on our preparation. One foot, one step, one breath at a time. Never forgetting our goal to raise funds to help those in our industry who need it the most. Knowing how many people had supported us, how many of them had donated and helped was an extra motivational factor - and we never forgot that for a second.

Kayla Ebbels says:

It feels wonderful to know that we were able to raise much needed funds for such an amazing cause. Hospitality Action is an inspirational charity to raise money for, I myself have been so grateful to have been able to utilise their services in the past, helping me through trauma with the aid of a psychologist. It was a truly unforgettable, amazing experience hiking with my teammates, lending support and encouragement to one another to get us all to the top!

Micaela González says:

Taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge was a great opportunity to be amongst nature and see the beautiful landscapes the UK has to offer. It was also great to get to know my colleagues better. Being together for a couple of days brought out the best in everyone! I was impressed by the kindness and courage of all the team members, and I was proud and delighted to reach the top of each mountain together.

Q3: The Zetter Hotel is only a 5 minutes’ walk from the HA office. We have a long history of partnership and support and we are very grateful for that. Why is it important to you to fundraise for Hospitality Action?

We are honoured to have a long-standing partnership with Hospitality Action, over the years we have seen the value of the services provided by the charity time and time again. We are grateful to have received valuable support and counselling for many of our employees to help them through financial, emotional or physical struggles. We also received vital guidance from Hospitality Action on to how to navigate through the pandemic as a business.

Q4: What’s next? Would you fundraise for HA again?

The hospitality industry can be a challenging place to be at times, especially over the last few years. We encourage our team to stay active where possible due to the positive impact it can have on mental health. Getting out into the great outdoors and taking on a physical challenge like the Three Peaks has been truly uplifting for the team and we will certainly be arranging some more challenges in the future! The team have already started thinking about the next Zetter adventure, so watch this space!
